Dreaming

These pictures were taken October 29th, when Kaya was almost 1 month old.

She must have had a funny dream!

Sinterklaas

Sint and Piet visited Kaya, but she was not impressed. They didn't even bring presents!

To make matters even worse, we had to take Kaya to the doctor where she got her first shots against all kinds of diseases. She was asleep when the nurse came in with too big needles....poor girl, she didn't know what happened to her!

Kaya is growing and smiling!

Yesterday we took Kaya to the childcare office, where she had her first check up by a pediatrician. We were relieved to hear that Kaya is a perfectly healthy baby! She has grown a lot since her birth four weeks ago: 4 centimeters and 500 grams (she weighed 4320 at birth, than lost 200, and is now 4680). Her skin is beautiful, her eyes and ears are good, and so are her reflexes.
We knew we had a gorgeous and brilliant daughter, but it's nice to hear a professional confirm our opinion!

Furthermore, I thought I saw Kaya smile at me yesterday. She's now 4 weeks old, and according to all the books baby's don't smile until they're 6 weeks. But the doctor said it was very well possible that Kaya smiled at me, because she was so "complete" when she was born (and therefore a bit ahead of the average baby). Of course today Kaya's not getting any rest because mama wants her to smile again....

Sound asleep

We like to take pictures of Kaya when she's asleep, so that we can have a look at them during the hours she keeps us awake at night! Ah, it's not that bad. She usually wakes up every 3-4 hours, but sometimes she refuses to go back to sleep after I fed her. When I look into her beautiful blue eyes at 2 a.m. and realise she's completely awake, I know it's going to be a long night...Fortunately we make up for it during the day!

Don't I look great in pink???

Hormones are funny things...

During my pregnancy I was never bothered too much by raging hormones: no tears, no moodswings, no emotional outbursts. Well, not that many. But nature did have some tricks left for me!

Since I gave birth to Kaya I suddenly think the color pink is cute for babies...

And for some reason that is beyond me, my hair looks absolutely fabulous at 3 a.m. I guess that's natures way of saying "sorry" for all the broken nights! I would take a picture of this amazing hairdo to show you guys, if only my face didn't look so sleepy...

And yes, there were finally some tears. Kaya's been very restless today, and when Tony asked me why I was suddenly crying, I answered that I hadn't had a hot cup of tea all day. He asked why I hadn't made any tea, but the thing was that I had made tea twice, but never came round to actually drinking it. Poor me! I guess men miss a lot when they're at work....

I'll leave you with a question: untill what age is it okay to find farts and burbs cute?? (I mean your babies age, not your own :-)

I'm just so pretty!

First times

Kaya is experiencing a lot of first times:

the first time to be taken outside by two extremely proud parents

the first time to be in a car

the first time to be introduced to a cat

the first time to look very angry!

And of course there are a million other first times that we didn't take a picture of:
- the first time to throw up all over mommy's back
- the first time to keep those parents awake almost the whole night....
- the first time to surprise your parents by pooping just after they took your diaper off
etc. etc. etc.

Sleeping Beauty

Kaya is here!!!

Our beautiful daughter Kaya Ling was born on October 2nd, at 2.36 am. We know many people have tried before us. but we actually managed to do it: we created the most beautiful and amazing babygirl in the whole world!!!

People who want juicy details about the delivery can contact me in person, but let me just say it was incredibly fast, intens and painful... I gave birth at home, which is normal practice in Holland. Kaya was in such a hurry to come out, that the midwife just barely made it to our house to assist!

Teddybears, babyclothes and golden toys can be sent to our new home:

baby stuff

We borrowed this hanging cradle from friends. It hangs in our bedroom, but can of course be moved to Ling's own room when we're tired of all the crying :-)

And this is Ling's room. It's not finished yet, but I don't think a tiny baby will notice that there's nothing on the walls yet... The room itself is actually ridiciously big for a baby, but Ling can use it until she's 18 and moves out of our house!

The dresser used to belong to my parents, and both me and my brother had our diapers changed on it.

40 weeks pregnant: I'm ready!

I'm absolutely huge! I'm as mobile as a walrus and I climb stairs with the speed of a turtle...but other than that I'm fine and it's great that cars stop when I want to cross the road.

it's also fun to scare shopemployees when they ask how many more weeks I have to go and then reply that my due date is today. For some reason they always look down to check if my feet are still dry.

Since a few days I can honoustly say I'm ready for Ling. Both physically (I needed some time to recover from renovating and moving) and mentally (I finally had time to think about what's ahead of us, instead of selecting wallpaper or toiletseats). And so is Tony. I should have taken a picture of him the week after we moved, because the poor thing looked like shit. But now he's his gorgeous self again!

you can come out now Ling.....

37 weeks pregnant

From this day on I can officially give birth at home. In our new home, because we moved last week! Everything went very smooth, but now we both need some time to relax...

Not online

In the last two weeks or so I've become absolutely huge! Moving has become quite tiring and doens't look that elegant anymore (not like my normal charming self...). Other than that I'm fine, and so is Ling.

I'd love to write more, and publish some photo's, but we moved last week and we won't have internet for another two weeks.

More news soon!!

Ling's last name

We finally agreed that Ling's last name will be Van Esch (and not the more unique Meindersma). But this does give Joke the right to go on holiday by herself if she should want to (for example to visit Mo in Africa!), and of course for instance if Ling has a very difficult puberty, I can always say "hey, it's your name, your daughter, your problem!". I think this is an excellent deal!

Bigfoot

Where did my ankles go????

Ultrasound

Yesterday we had another ultrasound, because at the 20 weeks ultrasound Ling's kidney's were a bit enlarged, and the placenta was near "the exit". But now everything was fine! She's already in the right position, and hopefully stays there.

Parents-to-be at work in new house

Since July 3rd we've been working hard in our new house. You can read about it in our other blog: http://cevennen.blogspot.com

We don't know anything about baby's yet, but you can ask us about tearing down chimneys and steaming off layers of old wallpaper anytime!
